PSOB Program

The Public Safety Officer Benefit (PSOB) program helps ensure timely assistance to families during difficult circumstances and recognizes the service and sacrifice of Michigan’s emergency personnel. On October 3, 2024, Public Act (PA) 128 of 2024 expanded the PSOB Act to provide increased financial support to families of public safety officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. 

  • 2025 Payments

    In FY 2025, seven awards were made totaling $350,000.00. Payments were for the following dedicated public safety officers who lost their life performing service to their communities:

    • Firefighter Donna Hatfield, Frederic Township Fire Department
    • Officer Kelvin Patrick, Detroit Police Department
    • Deputy Bradley Reckling, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office
    • Deputy Isaac Harrigan, Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office
    • Deputy William Butler, Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office
    • Motor Carrier Officer Daniel Kerstetter, Michigan State Police
    • Corporal Mohamed Said, Melvindale Police Department
