MDCR Director Commends Governor on E.D. Ending Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation in State Procurement, Loan and Grant Programs

Lansing, MI–Michigan Department of Civil Rights Director Agustin V. Arbulu today issued the following statement in response to Governor Snyder's Executive Directive instructing all state agencies and departments to end discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in procurement, grant and loan programs.

"Today Governor Snyder, in issuing this historic Executive Directive, moved Michigan closer to an era where the rights of LGBTQ individuals are recognized and protected. I commend him for this bold and clear message and call on all government agencies at every level to adopt this approach.”

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the operational arm of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, is charged with investigating and resolving discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.
