MDCR Issues Statement on the Death of Claudette Colvin

Lansing, MI - John E. Johnson, Jr., Executive Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, has issued the following statement today regarding the death of Claudette Colvin. 

“The passing of Claudette Colvin is yet another reminder that the legendary stories of civil rights tragedies and triumphs are still within one lifetime. That context makes real the fact that our civil rights are a living, breathing testament to our resolve and desire to create a better world for future generations."

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is charged with investigating and resolving discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.
