Board certifies MotorCity Casino for wagering tax roll back.
In action today at the MGCB's monthly Board meeting, MotorCity Casino was determined to have met all the criteria for a tax roll back established in Public Act 306 of 2004. MotorCity is the second among the three Detroit casinos to open its permanent casino/hotel facility.
The Board approved the casino's request to be certified for a wagering tax reduction. The State's effective casino wagering tax will decrease from 24% to 19%. The new rate reflects a State wagering tax of 8.1% and a City of Detroit wagering tax of 10.9%.
Executive Director Rick Kalm stated, "The roll back was designed as an incentive to get the permanent facilities completed and it worked."
