Detroit casino revenues and gaming taxes reported for Third Quarter and September 2018

Detroit, Oct. 9, 2018 - The three Detroit casinos reported $355 million in aggregate revenue during the third quarter for a 3.2 percent revenue increase compared with the same period last year.  September aggregate revenue of $115.2 million was 1.4 percent higher than in September 2017, but results fell 4.4 percent from August’s monthly revenue of $120.5 million. 

For the first nine months of the year, the Detroit casinos recorded $1.08 billion in aggregate revenue. This was a 2.3 percent increase compared with the same period last year.

September market shares were:

  • MGM, 43 percent
  • MotorCity, 34 percent
  • Greektown, 23 percent
  • During September, the three Detroit casinos paid $9.3 million in gaming taxes to the State of Michigan compared with $9.2 million for the same period last year. The State of Michigan received $28.8 million in gaming taxes from the three Detroit casinos during the third quarter compared with $27.9 million for the same period last year.

    The three Detroit casinos reported submitting $14.2 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit during September. During the third quarter, the casinos reported submitting $46.9 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.
