800 MHz Training
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Radio Support Unit offers 800 MHz Train the Trainer (TTT) and Operator Training (OT) courses based on demand. Classes are given on a first come, first serve basis at a low cost for any agency currently on Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS), or any agency seeking training prior to a switchover to MPSCS from their current radio system.
800 MHz Radio Training - Train the Trainer
Course Description: TTT is a four-day, in-depth, detailed 800 MHz course that gives trainers the tools needed to train users on a complex system. Personnel who complete the TTT course will have met the required MPSCS training to conduct the one day OT course. Students are also provided with the necessary training aids to conduct MPSCS OT classes including a PowerPoint presentation, quick reference guides, and operator training manuals for Motorola, EF Johnson, and Kenwood radios.
The cost is $100 per participant. Payment will be invoiced after completion of training.
Registration: Contact Sgt. James Leece at LeeceJ@michigan.gov or 517-898-0325
800 MHz Radio Training - Operator Training
Course Description: The OT course is a one-day, eight-hour course, designed to teach users of the 800 MHz system to operate the portable and mobile radios. Personnel who complete the OT course will have met the required MPSCS training and will be able to adequately operate the Motorola, EF Johnson, or Kenwood radios that are used on the MPSCS. This course does not prepare students to conduct radio training for their own agencies.
The cost is $25 per participant. Payment will be invoiced after completion of training.
Registration: Contact Sgt. James Leece at LeeceJ@michigan.gov or 517-898-0325
800 MHz Radio Training - Operator Refresher Training
Course Description: The Operator Refresher Training is a two-hour block of instruction which uses a ‘hands-on' approach and reviews the operation of both the portable and mobile radio. It revisits the concept of zones and talk groups, scanning, radio tones/bonks, battery maintenance, radio repair procedures, the 800 MHz system, other agencies in your area, and interoperability. This course is designed for those users who have already attended the required eight-hour 800 MHz OT course, but could benefit from a review. This course does not take the place of the eight-hour OT Course nor does it prepare students to conduct radio training for their own agencies.
Class Size: Maximum 20 students
Cost: $150.00 flat fee
Scheduling or questions: If your agency needs a Train the Trainer, Operator's Training, or Refresher Training, please contact Sgt. James Leece at LeeceJ@michigan.gov or 517-517-898-0325
Payment: Once the course is attended by the student(s), an invoice will be sent to the student’s work facility. This invoice will allow payment by credit card, check, or money order.
