SEOC launches new website in response to rising water levels at Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex

The response to flooding concerns at the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex continues to be coordinated through the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in support of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

As conditions evolve, the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) has launched a new website to keep residents informed.

The website, www.michigan.gov/cheboygandam, includes up-to-date information about the response efforts, daily water level reports, news releases, resources for residents, photos and videos..

“Having a single, verified source of information is critical during an evolving situation such as this,” said Capt. Kevin Sweeney, deputy state director of Emergency Management and commander of MSP/EMHSD. “This website provides community members and the media quick access to the latest updates and safety information.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency and activated the SEOC on April 10 as rising water from spring rain and melting snow from a record March snowfall threatened to overwhelm the dam.

The declaration authorizes the use of all available state resources to assist local response and recovery operations in the affected county. Most resources have been dedicated to protecting critical infrastructure and the environment.
