April 16, 2026
On April 1, 2026, officers from 20 different police agencies in Michigan and Canada performed 1,638 traffic stops as part of the “Lake to Lake, Focused and Safe” distracted driving initiative, a first-of-its-kind international traffic enforcement operation spanning more than 500 miles along I-94, Highway 402 and Highway 401.
“Distracted driving continues to pose a serious threat to everyone on the road,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police (MSP). “The results of this unified enforcement effort sends a clear message that safe, attentive driving is critical, no matter where you travel.”
In total, officers issued 1,140 traffic citations and 645 verbal warnings, and made 48 arrests.
Agencies joining the MSP in this effort included:
Indiana State Police
Ontario Provincial Police
Windsor Police Department
Berrien County Sheriff
Calhoun County Sheriff
