Michigan Disaster Recovery Centers Opening Statewide to Connect Residents with FEMA Assistance
July 10, 2026
LANSING, MICH. The Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) with support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established multiple locations across the state to connect eligible residents affected by April's severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding with federal disaster assistance.
“Communities across Michigan are still rebuilding from devastating storms, tornadoes, and flooding this spring,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “That’s why we’re making it easier for eligible residents to access FEMA assistance close to home. Michigan Disaster Recovery Centers will bring critical recovery resources directly into impacted communities, helping families navigate the recovery process and become more resilient to future disasters. We'll keep working alongside our local, state, and federal partners to ensure every community has the support it needs to recover and move forward.”
Specialists from FEMA and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will be available at eight Michigan Disaster Recovery Centers (MI DRCs) to help survivors apply for FEMA’s Individual Assistance (IA) and SBA disaster loan programs, upload documents, learn about ways to make their property more disaster-resistant, and get questions answered in person. Additional pop-up sites and mobile centers will open across the state throughout the IA application period.
“Recovering from a disaster can be a difficult and overwhelming process” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police and state director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. “These MI DRCs are designed to make that process easier for residents by bringing FEMA specialists and recovery resources directly into impacted communities, ensuring all eligible residents get the support they need.”
An interactive map with the location and hours of operations of the MI DRCs, mobile centers, and pop-up sites, and SBA Business Recovery Centers (BRC) can be found on the April severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding webpage.

The declaration opened the path to FEMA’s IA program for 27 counties, including: Alcona, Allegan, Alpena, Antrim, Barry, Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Gratiot, Iosco, Kalamazoo, Kalkaska, Manistee, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Presque Isle, Roscommon, Saginaw, Washtenaw, and Wexford Counties.
Survivors don’t need to visit an MI DRC to apply for FEMA assistance. IA can be applied for online and through the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Low-interest disaster loans are also available through the SBA. For additional information on low-interest SBA loans or the application process, affected residents can visit the MySBA Loan Portal, a MI DRC, or call 1-800-659-2955 to apply.
