There are two major classes of firefighting foam: Class A and Class B. Class B is also called Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) and is usually created using PFAS. It is a highly effective foam used for fighting high-hazard flammable liquid fires, like gasoline, oil, and jet fuel.

The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) will meet in Constitution Hall, Stewart Hearing Room, North Tower Atrium, 525 West Allegan Street, Lansing, Michigan, on:
April 4, 2019 9:30 a.m.
The meeting site is handicapped accessible, including parking. Individuals with disabilities who need mobility, visual, hearing, and/or other assistance for effective participation should direct a request for assistance to Candra Wilcox at 517-284-5004 in advance of the meeting.
The meeting agenda includes presentations on health-based criteria for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water, the rulemaking process for establishing Maximum Contaminant Levels for PFAS in drinking water, and the creation of a Scientific Advisory Workgroup to recommend health-based criteria for the rulemaking process.

With summer approaching, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recommends residents and visitors avoid foam on Michigan waterbodies such as lakes, rivers and streams. Foam can form on any waterbody. Natural foam is usually off-white and/or brown, can have an earthy or fishy scent, and tends to pile up in bays, eddies or at river barriers, such as dams.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement in support of this welcome development for national consistency in protecting Americans from these toxic “forever chemicals.”
