Former Brighton Area Fire Training Center Area of Interest (Brighton, Livingston County)
Investigations conducted by the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) have found numerous sites contaminated by PFAS due to the use of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). MPART evaluated Michigan fire training centers and found several have potentially used AFFF containing PFAS during historical training exercises, including the former training center at the Brighton Area Fire Authority – Station 32. Michigan law now prohibits training with AFFF containing PFAS.
Given the potential historical use of AFFF and for groundwater to be impacted and reach nearby drinking water wells, MPART will be proactively sampling drinking water wells near the former fire training center to protect public health. Nearby lakes include Osborn Lake, Morgan Lake, Spring Lake, and several other small bodies of water.

Drinking water information
EGLE, DHHS, and local health have reviewed residential well logs and have developed a plan to sample identified drinking water wells. Identified well owners will receive a letter in the mail requesting access to sample drinking water.
