Artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbot
The State of Michigan is dedicated to improving our digital services and our user experiences. To streamline your interaction with our Michigan.gov websites, we are launching a generative AI powered chatbot to help you quickly access the information you are looking for.
The chatbot provides:
- General information about our departments and agencies.
- Details on state services, programs and initiatives.
- Contact information for many of our programs and services.
- Updates from agency newsrooms and events.
- Links to relevant resources on our websites, including documents.
How to use the chatbot
Currently, the chatbot is only available on the UIA webpages at Michigan.gov/UIA.
Using the chatbot is simple.
- Ask a question: Type your question in the chatbot. For best results, be as specific as possible.
- Get an answer: The chatbot will respond to your question, provide links to relevant pages or instructions on where to find more information, or ask for clarifying information.
- Try rephrasing: If you aren’t getting the response you need, try asking the question a different way. Variations in wording and phrasing can lead to different responses.
- Follow up: The chatbot remembers context from your full conversation, so if you need more information, ask a follow-up question. Context will be maintained for the session, 30 minutes total or 10 minutes of no activity.
- Visit source links: It is recommended users verify the information provided in the chat by visiting the Michigan.gov links and additional resources provided during the chat.
Navigating the chatbot
- You can interact directly in the chat box by typing or by speech-to-text using the microphone () button.
- Responses will be returned in text or via text-to-speech, enabled using the sound () button.
- Responses will include source URLs (when relevant), directing you to a web location to find more information.
- The chat window can be maximized with the expand icon ().
- Use the close chat icon () to close the chatbot window.
- Select the "show more options" menu () in the top right and select “Clear history” to refresh the context and start a new conversation.
- Provide feedback - after each conversation you will be asked to provide feedback (thumbs up/thumbs down + comment). Your feedback is valuable! We will consistently review and analyze your feedback for ways to improve the chatbot.
