LANSING, Mich. – Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer today named her director of the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget and designated acting directors at the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Talent and Economic Development, and Department of Insurance and Financial Services.
“We have been working diligently to get a strong Cabinet in place and now we are ready to get to work for the people of Michigan,” said Governor-elect Whitmer. “This Cabinet builds on a foundation of immense expertise and a dedication to public service that will guide our efforts to improve the lives of the people of this state each and every day.”
Tricia L. Foster, CPM, ACoM has been named director of the Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Foster retired as Senior Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of CBRB/Martin and CRBE/Grand Rapids, a commercial real estate services and investment firm, after a 23 year career. Foster obtained her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.
“Trish has vast leadership experience and a deep commitment to public service,” Whitmer said. “She will provide the guidance needed to ensure our state government is responsive and adaptive to the needs of our residents.”
Stephanie Beckhorn will serve as acting director at the Department of Talent and Economic Development. Beckhorn currently serves as director of the Workforce Development Agency and has nearly 20 years experience in workforce and economic development. She is a Certified Business Solutions Professional and a Michigan State University graduate.
“Stephanie will provide the leadership and guidance that will be critical at TED until a permanent director can be named,” Whitmer said. “She knows the department and will ensure that we can start moving forward on workforce development issues starting on January 1.”
Farah Hanley, deputy director for Financial Operations for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, will step in to serve as acting director at DHHS until the permanent director of the department is named. That announcement is expected to be made during the second week of January.
Judy Weaver, Senior Deputy Director of the Department of Insurance and Financial Services, will serve as the acting director of the Department of DIFS until January 14 when the appointment of Anita Fox as director of the department is effective.
