Gov. Whitmer Appoints Isaiah M. Oliver to Central Michigan University Board of Trustees
LANSING, Mich. -- – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer today appointed Isaiah M. Oliver of Flint to the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees.
“In order to ensure Michigan’s success for generations to come, we must provide opportunities for every student in every community to succeed in the classroom,” Whitmer said. “I’m confident that Isaiah shares that dedication for opportunity and will make a strong addition to the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees.”
Isaiah M. Oliver, of Flint, is an alumnus of Central Michigan University and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. Mr. Oliver is appointed to succeed Joseph B. Anderson for a term expiring December 31, 2024.
“It’s an honor for me to serve as a Central Michigan University Trustee. I hope to continue the university’s legacy of growth and excellence for current students and future generations,” Oliver said. “In this economy, education is the most useful tool our state has for increasing statewide economic competitiveness and citizen level economic self-sufficiency.”
The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees retains ultimate responsibility for academic matters and reserves authority over such areas as the mission and goals of the institution ranging from admissions to faculty promotions.
The Board of Trustees also clarify the institution's mission, approve long-range plans, assess the educational program, ensure financial solvency, preserve institutional independence and maintain the relationship between the university and the public it serves.
This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
