Michigan Infrastructure Office Technical Assistance Center Launches Second Application Window to Help Communities Secure Federal Infrastructure Dollars
LANSING, Mich.—The Michigan Infrastructure Office (MIO) Technical Assistance Center (TAC) today announced it is opening a second round of applications for technical assistance to help communities apply for and win federal infrastructure grants that can be used to build safe roads and bridges, more robust transit connectivity and resilient infrastructure while helping Michigan reach the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.
“We encourage communities across the state to take this opportunity and apply for technical assistance as these grants can play a large role in enhancing the vitality of our communities and building infrastructure that will benefit lives for generations,” said Zachary Kolodin, Michigan’s chief infrastructure officer and director of the Michigan Infrastructure Office. "As MIO’s Technical Assistance Center opens its second application window, we extend our appreciation to President Biden and our congressional delegates for continuing to make these vital funding opportunities available to our communities.”
The application period will be divided into two phases to ensure communities have ample time to receive assistance for these grants from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Transportation that open from early spring to summer 2024. Phase 1 (Window 2A) will accept applications for technical assistance until March 8, 2024, to support federal funds due in April. Phase 2 (Window 2B) will remain open until March 22, 2024, for applications supporting federal grants due from May to July 2024.
The TAC aids communities in leveraging federal funding opportunities by providing technical assistance, planning, and matching grants to locals, tribal governments, and other eligible entities. Support available through this Window includes consulting services for grant identification for project funding, grant writing and technical responses (benefit-cost analysis), and match to projects.
“There are millions of dollars available through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, and we want to provide Michigan’s communities with the vital resources and support they need to navigate the intricate process of securing transformational federal funding,” said TAC Director Kris Brady. “These funds represent the opportunity to address critical infrastructure needs, including enhancing road safety, modernizing public transit systems, accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles, and bolstering our state's overall infrastructure resilience. Through our tailored assistance programs, we aim not only to facilitate successful grant applications but also to drive sustainable development and enrich the quality of life for all Michiganders.”
The TAC is hosting a live webinar to help communities better understand technical assistance, the grant opportunities available and the application process. The webinar is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23. The TAC will also hold office hours at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 1.
