Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions
LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, and the State Teacher Tenure Commission.
Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery
Erik Kissel, D.P.M., of Bloomfield Township, is a podiatrist with Foot and Ankle Specialists of Southeast Michigan. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Rosalind Franklin University School of Medicine and Science. Dr. Kissel is appointed to succeed Kevan Kreitman, whose term expired June 30, 2019, to represent podiatrists for a term expiring June 30, 2023.
Harvey M. Lefkowitz, D.P.M., of Southfield, is a podiatrist and the owner of Harvey Lefkowitz, DPM, PC. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Lefkowitz is appointed to succeed Zeeshan Husain, whose term expired June 30, 2018, to represent podiatrists for a term expiring June 30, 2022.
Brandon Weber, PA-C, of Berkley, is a licensed physician assistant and the managing director of Physician Assistant Staffing Services, Inc. He earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Wayne State University. Mr. Weber is appointed to succeed Amy Kaufman, whose term expired June 20, 2019, to represent physician assistants for a term expiring June 30, 2023.
The Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery was formed to license and regulate the practice of podiatric medicine and surgery, which is defined in the Public Health Code as the evaluation, diagnosis, management, and prevention of conditions of the lower extremities, including local manifestations of systemic disease in the human foot and ankle, by attending to and advising patients and through the use of devices, diagnostic tests, drugs and biologicals, surgical procedures, or other means.
These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
State Teacher Tenure Commission
Nicole McKinney, of Southfield, is the work-based learning director of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan and a trustee of the Birmingham Public Schools Board of Education. Ms. McKinney is appointed to succeed Stephen Olsen, whose term expires August 31, 2019, to represent a member of a board of education of a graded or city school district, for a term expiring August 31, 2024.
The State Teacher Tenure Commission acts as a board of review for all cases appealed from the decision of a controlling board.
This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
