Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions
LANSING, Mich. - Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the State Officers Compensation Commission.
State Officers Compensation Commission
Amy Burton, of Okemos, is the coalition director for the Healthy Kids Healthy Michigan non-profit organization. She previously worked as an appointments specialist for Governor Jennifer Granholm. She holds A bachelor of Applied Science from Davenport University. Ms. Burton is appointed for a term commencing January 31, 2022 and expiring January 1, 2026. She succeeds Dan DeGrow whose term expired January 1, 2022.
Tom Cochran, of Mason, is currently retired after working with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Fire Services and serving as a State Representative for the 67th District. He previously served as the fire chief for the City of Lansing. Mr. Cochran holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Sienna Heights University and an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science from Lansing Community College. Mr. Cochran is appointed for a term commencing January 31, 2022 and expiring January 1, 2026. He succeeds Phyllis Browne whose term expired January 1, 2022.
Lawrence P. Nolan, Sr., of Okemos, is an attorney and president of Nolan, Thomsen & Villas, PC. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Michigan University. Mr. Nolan is appointed for a term commencing January 31, 2022 and expiring January 1, 2026. He succeeds Osama Siblani whose term expired January 1, 2022.
Nancy Quarles, Ph.D., of Southfield, is an associate professor at Central Michigan University. She previously served as a State Representative for the 36th District and as an Oakland County Commissioner. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Affairs from Western Michigan University. Dr. Quarles is appointed for a term commencing January 31, 2022 and expiring January 1, 2026. She succeeds Gerald Hildenbrand whose term expired January 1, 2022.
The State Officers Compensation Commission shall determine the salaries and expense allowances of the members of the Legislature, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Attorney General, the Secretary of State, and the Justices of the Supreme Court.
These appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
