May 12 - May 18, 2019: Skilled Nursing Care Week

WHEREAS, skilled nursing facilities have been recognized for caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities for over 50 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, skilled nursing facilities provide care to over 3.9 million individuals for short-stay or post-acute rehabilitation and long-term care in 15,655 centers that provide 1.7 million beds; and,

 

WHEREAS, skilled nursing facilities employ over 1.7 million staff of which approximately 1.2 million are health care practitioners and health care support workers nationally; and,

 

WHEREAS, the citizens across the nation and those of Rogers City, Michigan, now residing in skilled nursing facilities, have contributed immeasurably to the heritage, success, and growth of our communities; and,

 

WHEREAS, nursing care residents of any age or ability are themselves a living history and a precious resource; and,

 

WHEREAS, nursing facilities nationally along with Medilodge of Rogers City are holding events in honor of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, led by this year’s national theme of “Living Soulfully”; and,

 

WHEREAS, Medilodge of Rogers City employs approximately 90 employees of which 70 provide direct patient care; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 12-18, 2019 as Skilled Nursing Care Week, and I urge every citizen to join in honoring residents, patients, caregivers, nurses, other staff, and visitors by celebrating and showing appreciation.
