September 15, 2023: Concussion Awareness Day
September 15, 2023
WHEREAS, a concussion is a serious health issue that affects millions of children, teenagers, and adults in the United State each year; and,
WHEREAS, concussions can be harmful to both physical and mental health; and,
WHEREAS, concussions should be taken seriously in academic and athletic life to optimize recovery and prevent further injury; and,
WHEREAS, raising awareness about concussions among coaches, teachers, athletes, parents, health care professionals, and the general public can lead to better testing, treatment, understanding, and recovery from concussions; and,
WHEREAS, people who have been impacted by concussions should have the opportunity to share their stories and feel empowered by support they can receive;
WHEREAS, if a concussion injury is suspected, that individual should seek medical attention right away; and,
WHEREAS, more information about concussions, signs and symptoms can be found at www.cdc.gov/headsup
NOW THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 15th, 2023, as Concussion Awareness Day in Michigan.
