WHEREAS, on January 8, 2024, in Houston, Texas, the Michigan Wolverines emerged victorious in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship, clinching a resounding triumph over the Washington Huskies in a 34-13 victory; and,
WHEREAS, in a match-up of the nation's only undefeated teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision, the championship game marked the fifth match-up of 14-0 teams in the 10-year history of the College Football Playoff and the Wolverine’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Wolverines' crowning achievement is a testament to the Wolverines' exceptional skill, determination, and indomitable Michigan grit. The resilience and sportsmanship displayed on the field exemplify the values that the state of Michigan holds dear; and,
WHEREAS, in this moment of celebration, Michiganders extend their gratitude to the coaching staff, support personnel, and the student-athletes who poured their heart and soul into every play. Their dedication and teamwork have not only secured a coveted trophy for Ann Arbor but also a sense of pride to fans in every corner of our state; and,
WHEREAS, it is only fitting to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding achievement of the Michigan Wolverines, as Michiganders proudly declare, "Who has it better than us? Nobody!";
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim January 9, 2024, as Michigan Wolverine Day in Michigan. Hail to the Victors!
