The department has also increased corrections officer pay by over 18% in the past five years and provided an additional $55 million in bonuses. MDOC continues to work on a wide range of staffing initiatives such as identifying recruitment barriers through research and feedback, organizing traveling units, reducing educational barriers to employment, and ongoing targeted recruitment efforts.
