Karin Gyger

Chief Deputy Director

Karin Gyger is the Chief Deputy Director at the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS). In this capacity, she leads the operations of the Department in conjunction with the DIFS Director, directs the implementation of the Department’s initiatives, and oversees the Department's legislative activities.

Ms. Gyger began her employment at DIFS in 2011 as the Health Insurance Resource Specialist overseeing the Health Insurance Consumer Assistance Program and serving as the state's Affordable Care Act Ombudsperson. She worked as the Special Assistant to the Chief Deputy Director, and then as the Department's Manager of Insurance Policy and Research where she assisted with departmental priorities, strategic planning, and served as a legislative liaison. In her most recent role, Ms. Gyger served as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director where she was responsible for external affairs efforts and legislative initiatives. She has also represented DIFS on the Michigan Autism Council.

Prior to joining DIFS, Ms. Gyger spent 11 years working on legislation, state policy matters, and constituent concerns in the Michigan House of Representatives. She received her bachelor's degree from James Madison College at Michigan State University.
