Third Party Administrator
The Michigan Department of Insurance Financial Services (DIFS) does not administer the unemployment insurance program and is unable to provide assistance regarding the unemployment system.
For employer-third party administrators (TPA) that need assistance with the Michigan unemployment insurance system, information is available on the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) website. Once on the page, scroll down to the information in red for relevant guidance. Contact number for UIA: 1-866-500-0017.
Third Party Administrator
As stated in Section 550.902(t) of the Third Party Administrator Act, being MCL 550.902(t), a Third Party Administrator (TPA) is defined as:
"a person that directly or indirectly processes claims under a service contract and that may also provide 1 or more other administrative services under a service contract, other than under a worker's compensation self-insurance program pursuant to section 611 of the worker's disability compensation act of 1969, 1969 PA 317, MCL 418.611. Third party administrator includes a pharmacy benefit manager. Third party administrator does not include a carrier or employer sponsoring a plan."
