FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 13, 2024
(LANSING, MICH) Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox has been selected to serve in several key roles for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in 2024. Among those roles, Director Fox has been reappointed as the Chair of the Health Insurance and Managed Care Committee, ensuring that Michigan has a strong national voice in health insurance regulation and public policy development.
“It is an honor to continue to serve on the national level and represent Michigan as the Chair of the NAIC’s Health Insurance and Managed Care Committee,” said Director Fox. “Michigan has long been a national leader in developing insurance policy, and I look forward to leading the NAIC’s nationwide efforts to expand consumer protections, ensure equitable access to health insurance, and reduce insurance costs for all Americans.”
The Health Insurance and Managed Care Committee is charged with considering issues relating to all aspects of health insurance, including examining factors that contribute to rising health insurance premiums and the potential impacts of health policy decisions on underserved populations. The Committee also serves as the NAIC’s health insurance liaison to the U.S. Congress, the White House, and federal agencies.
In addition to serving as Chair of the Health Insurance and Managed Care Committee, Director Fox will also serve in the following committees and work groups:
- Director Fox was elected Chair of the Midwest Zone, which represents 13 states including Michigan
- Director Fox will once again serve on the Executive Committee, which manages the affairs of the NAIC.
- Director Fox will continue as a member of the International Insurance Relations Committee, which coordinates NAIC participation in international discussions on the development of insurance regulatory and supervisory standards and promotes international cooperation; and the Special Committee on Race and Insurance, which is charged with examining and determining which practices or barriers exist in the insurance sector that potentially disadvantage people of color and/or historically underrepresented groups and will make recommendations on action steps to remove these barriers.
- Director Fox will continue as an NAIC representative on the Policy Development Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, the global body responsible for developing standards for the supervision of the insurance sector in order to develop and maintain fair, safe and stable insurance markets for protection of policyholders and to contribute to global financial stability.
Other key DIFS staff serve on other NAIC work groups and task forces, ensuring that Michigan is well represented in decision-making across the NAIC. For more information about the NAIC, visit NAIC.org.
