LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan National Guard (MING) will be honoring service members lost since 9/11 during a tribute event at the State Capitol on August 21 from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at 100 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing, MI 48933.
The day starts with a military equipment display from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., followed by the tribute from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. which includes remarks by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer; U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul D. Rogers, adjutant general and director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; State Senator Tom Barrett; and Michelle Anschuetz, co-founder of Project RELO. The ceremony includes a reading of the names of the fallen, a 21-gun salute, Taps and other events. The event is open to the public and there is no charge.
At the conclusion of this event, Project RELO, a nonprofit veteran advocacy group based in Grayling, will launch a coast-to-coast journey to pay homage to all service members lost since Sept. 11, 2001. A joint services team of Project RELO alumni will travel from Lansing to Seattle and then back across the country on another route, ending in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 11. LANSING, Mich. — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a final rule on drinking water standards for certain per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) on April 26, 2024. Under these new standards, which became effective on June 25, 2024, some private drinking water wells that were previously sampled have been found to exceed the new maximum contaminant levels (MCLs). The U.S. Army is working to incorporate those standards into its restoration program under the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).

LANSING, Mich. — The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have selected Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center to stage their airplanes in preparation for their participation in the 2024 National Cherry Festival Air Show, June 29-30 in Traverse City, MI. The Blue Angels will conduct a test of their mobile aircraft arresting system (MAAS) on June 26 at 12 p.m.
