U.S. Navy Blue Angels Aircraft to Conduct Exercise at Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center

Mobile aircraft arresting system test to occur on June 26

LANSING, Mich. — The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have selected Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center to conduct a test of their mobile aircraft arresting system (MAAS) on June 26 at 12 p.m. This is in preparation for their participation in the 2024 National Cherry Festival Air Show, June 29-30 in Traverse City, MI.

WHO: U.S. Navy Blue Angels
WHAT: MAAS test
WHEN: June 26 at 12 p.m.
WHERE: Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center, Grayling, MI

“As a part of the 33rd National Cherry Festival Air Show, we are required to install a MAAS in support of our headline performer this year, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels,” said Christian Smith, air show director for the National Cherry Festival. “Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Grayling Army Airfield graciously stepped up and offered to support the MAAS installation this year, which is not something we take lightly! The National Cherry Festival would not logistically qualify to host the Blue Angels without this arresting gear, we are very grateful for the offer and support from the entire team at Camp Grayling for making this happen!”

While this event is closed to the public, media are invited to attend to capture remarks by Michigan National Guard leadership and testing of the MAAS and should plan to arrive at 11:30 a.m. Please RSVP by 7:00 a.m. on June 26 to Jennifer Caverson, community relations specialist for Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center, at 517-899-4042 or jennifer.a.caverson.civ@army.mil.
