Michigan Civil Rights Commission Outlines Revised Process for Interviewing, Selecting and Appointing Next Director of Michigan Department of Civil Rights

DETROIT, MI— The Michigan Civil Rights Commission met in a special meeting yesterday to finalize the process for selecting a permanent Director for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR).
At the June 15 regular meeting, the Commission voted to establish a Search Committee comprised of Commissioners Elhasan, Grim and Roberson.
The Search Committee presented, and the Commission approved, a revised Job Description, NeoGov application, timeline, and recommended reference questions.
The qualified candidates identified in the previous search will be invited to reapply and the Commission will re-open the position to new applicants.
The timeline is as follows:
- July 8, the job posting will be available on NEOGOV
- July 27, the posting will close
- July 30, Civil Service Human Resources will submit qualified candidates to Special Advisor to the Commission
- August 4, deadline for Commissioners to submit their maximum of seven selections for Executive Director to Special Advisor to the Commission
- August 7, Civil Service Human Resources to conduct background checks, mail drug screening packages to candidates; Special Advisor to the Commission to contact references
- August 19, a Special Commission meeting will take place to conduct interviews and narrow candidate pool
- August 24, a Special Commission meeting will take place and the Commission will select a candidate for Executive Director
- August 28, the Commission will inform the selected candidate and present a job offer
- September 21, the new Director would start their role with MDCR
As before, applicants who are not selected for interview will be notified in writing.

The Michigan Civil Rights Commission was created by the Michigan Constitution to carry out constitutional and legal guarantees against discrimination.
