Dates and Hours

Although Governor Whitmer's Executive Order 2020-110 (COVID-19) allowed libraries and museums to re-open on June 8, 2020, the Michigan Iron Industry Museum remains closed to the public until further notice. The museum will re-open once we can ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Check the DNR COVID-19 Response page for updates.

Admission

Admission to the Michigan Iron Industry Museum is free; donations are appreciated. Some special programs have fees for participation or parking.

Location

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is located eight miles west of Marquette. Take Jackson Trace Parkway (not yet shown on map applications) off of U.S. 41, one mile west of Junction M-35; the approximately half-mile-long road leads to the museum.

While visiting the Michigan Iron Industry Museum, the following amenities are available:

  • Full restrooms
  • Hiking trails on museum grounds
  • The museum is a trail head for the Iron Ore Heritage Trail. It is a 47-mile, year round, multi-use, interpretive trail that crosses the Marquette Iron Range in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Visit the Iron Ore Heritage Trail website for a map and details about the trail.
  • Picnic areas

PHOTOGRAPHY

Personal photography without flash for private use is permitted in the buildings and on the grounds. Photographs may not be published, sold or otherwise distributed for commercial purposes.

Photography for weddings and other special events is allowed on the grounds and in the museum during regular open hours with advance permission. Please contact us in advance to schedule a time.

Accessibility

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is accessible to people who cannot use stairs; a Wheelchair may be borrowed, subject to availability. A magnifier, large-print transcripts of the A/V program and print-outs of the interpretive trail panels are available for use on request. Designated accessible parking is available. Service animals are always welcome.
