Training:
The State Properties Security Officer (SPSO) training program is typically between 8-10 weeks. The program includes a mix of residential and classroom training. State Properties Security Officers attend training at the Training Academy in Lansing. Recruits remain at the Academy for the duration of the recruit school. Recruits are allowed to leave the Training Academy on Friday evenings, but must return on Sunday afternoons.
During their training, recruits receive a bi-weekly salary of approximately $2,100. Recruit uniforms are provided by the department.
