911 Camp 2025
911 Camp offers students the opportunity to meet and learn from local first responders, including paramedics, police officers, dispatchers, and more. Participants will learn about options available after high school, such as military service, the Michigan State Police Recruit School, and federal or government careers. The camp features hands-on exercises and team-building activities designed to keep students active and engaged as they learn.
When: June 23 – 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Mather Elementary School in Munising
Registration packets can be picked up and submitted at the Alger Parks and Recreation Office.

Michigan State Police & Northwood University Career Academy
Are you 16-18 years old and interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement?
The Michigan State Police and Northwood University invite you to the 2025 Michigan State Police Career Academy, an immersive five-day exposure to law enforcement.
This free residential academy will mimic a normal 16-26 week police academy. Attendees will receive experience in physical training, scenario-based learning, water safety, defensive tactics and more.
When: June 23-27, 2025

Michigan State Police & Alpena Community College 2025 Law Enforcement Career Academy
This program is an immersive, five-day exposure to law enforcement.
The first four days will be intensive training designed to mimic that of a normal 16-26 week police academy. The academy will culminate on the fifth day with replication of a typical shift as a police officer.
When: August 11 - August 15, 2025
Where: Alpena Community College. Overnight housing will be provided onsite by the college.
This is a competitive program with limited spots available, so candidates are asked to submit a handwritten, four-paragraph paper with the following structure:
- Tell us about yourself – tell us who you are, where you’re from, and one fun fact about yourself (for example, I collect stamps).
- Why do you want to attend the academy?
- Why is this academy important to you? What is your motivation or inspiration?
- What do you hope to get out of the academy?
