Grant Funding Available for Community Gun Violence Intervention Programs
February 04, 2026
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Grants and Community Services Division (GCSD) will begin accepting grant applications April 1, 2026, as part of the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) - Phase 5. Byrne SCIP furthers the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance mission of achieving safer communities by assisting state, local and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence, particularly gun violence. Funding is to be used for the implementation of violence intervention programs and related education, particularly focusing on reducing gun violence in Michigan.
“Prior grantees have used this funding to deliver real results for their communities,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP. “In Muskegon County, community health workers are now inside local high schools, sitting down one-on-one with students who have been exposed to violence and helping them set goals to make safer choices. In Benton Harbor, Byrne SCIP grant funding has supported expanded mentorship, conflict resolution programming and safe nighttime activities that give kids a place to belong. These examples show how continued investment in critical violence prevention resources can help keep Michiganders safe.”
A Byrne SCIP Phase 5 webinar will be held on March 31, 2026, to review eligibility, application and grant requirement information. Interested applicants can register for the webinar on the MSP Byrne SCIP website.
