Adoption
Welcome to the Adoption Resources Page
The list of resources below all pertain to the adoption process, and can be used by birth parents, adoptive families, child welfare professionals, and more while navigating through it all.
There are more than 3,000 children in Michigan waiting for their forever homes each year.
The Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) is a statewide information and referral service for families interested in adopting children from foster care, and for adoption workers looking for homes for these children. The MARE website provides a listing of children in Michigan waiting for adoption, and of Michigan families interested in adopting children with special needs and circumstances.
Visit their website using the link below, or contact MARE today for more information:

Adoption Navigators
In 2011, the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) introduced Adoption Navigators—experienced adoptive parents who guide potential adoptive families through the adoption process. These Navigators have extensive parenting experience and adoption knowledge, attend community events, and help families find resources and advocate for themselves. The service is free and optional for families seeking information from MARE.
C.A.S.E.
The Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) supports families built through foster care, kinship care, guardianship, and adoption. C.A.S.E. is a nationally acclaimed nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the well-being and permanence of children and families. They achieve this by providing adoption-competent mental health services, training a nationwide network of professionals, and contributing to the field through research and advocacy.
Adoption Competency
The Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) program is a leading certificate initiative designed to enhance mental health practitioners' skills in adoption competency. Through both in-person and remote classes, along with clinical case consultations, TAC students develop essential clinical abilities that aid adopted children and their foster, adoptive, and kinship families. Since its 1998, C.A.S.E. has trained over 30,000 professionals across 43 states and territories.
Adopt US Kids
AdoptUSKids educates families about foster care and adoption while offering child welfare professionals the information and support needed to enhance their services. They assist families through every step of the adoption process and provide a wide range of resources to caseworkers and agency managers. They run a public service campaign to raise awareness about adopting from foster care. Currently in its sixteenth year, the campaign underscores the numerous reasons to adopt a teenager.
Spaulding for Children
Spaulding for Children is a private, non-profit adoption agency committed to finding families to adopt children that are placed in the child welfare system including older children, children of color, brothers and sisters that need a home together, and children with disabilities or challenges. Services provided to families include matching, placement, case management, home based visitation, education and training, support groups, information and referral, and opportunities to participate in Agency sponsored activities.
MARE For Families
MARE has information for families looking to adopt. From information about children waiting to be adopted, guides for parents new to the adoption process, support through the process, and lists of agency resources, the MARE for Families page has everything you could need. MARE refers prospective parents to agencies and answers questions they might have about adoption and children with "special needs." MARE also provides technical assistance to adoption workers and agencies.
Post Adoption Centers
Post Adoption Resource Centers support individuals under the age of 21 that were adopted in Michigan, and their families with support, education, training, and more. Visit the DHHS website for resource centers by county.
Agencies by County
MARE has created a list of adoption agencies in Michigan and organized them by the counties they are in. This list can give parents and professionals contact information for an agency near them.
The Adoption Network
The Adoption Network is a national network that provides resources and support to adoptive parents and birth mothers. From planning guides, to parenting resources, the Adoption Network provides both generic and state-specific information for families.
