The Michigan LGBTQ+ Commission, stands as a beacon of advocacy, inclusion and celebration for Michigan's diverse LGBTQ+ community. The commission's charge is to ensure equal representation, amplify voices and foster a state where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, feels affirmed and valued.
The 15-member council will advise the department on issues relating to the Arab and Chaldean communities in Michigan and promote awareness of their culture and history

Juanita Bocanegra is the only child of migrant farmworkers and migrated with my parents between Texas and Michigan since early elementary through graduation from high school switching schools twice per year. Her father has a second-grade education, and mother went to school through the fourth grade. She was the first person in her extended family to graduate high school. Thanks to the support of both of her parents and husband, she went on to graduate from college and then earned a juris doctor degree. She currently serves as a judge with the 58th District Court in Ottawa County.
