DLD Environmental Services, Inc. (Plainwell, Allegan County)

DLD Environmental Services, Inc., located at 331 Broad Street, is a licensed treatment, storage, and disposal facility for hazardous and non-hazardous laboratory and medical waste.  In the spring of 2025, after learning aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) was used to put a fire out at the facility in 2013, EGLE requested PFAS sampling for all 27 of the on-site monitoring wells.  Of the 27 wells sampled, 16 had detections of one or more compounds above criteria; 15 of the wells had exceedances of PFOS.  The highest results were 650 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt); 38 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt); and 170 ppt PFHxS (compared to 51 ppt).  Groundwater flow direction in the upper aquifer appears to be to the northwest, while the lower aquifer is toward the north.

The Kalamazoo River is located ~0.25 miles to the southwest.
