Former Fennville City Dump (Fennville, Allegan County)
The former Fennville City Dump is located on 54th Street, north of 124th Avenue (M-89), consisting of approximately 22 acres of land. The property was utilized as a landfill from the early 1950s until the early 1980s. The type of materials disposed of at the landfill are not known. The landfill is no longer active and is vacant land. Inspection records indicate that the landfill was not properly capped. The Environmental Protection Agency conducted a site assessment at the former landfill and sampled for PFAS in October 2023, which included sampling four temporary monitoring wells. One of the monitoring wells contained PFAS at concentrations above drinking water criteria. PFOS was detected at 32 ppt (compared to 16 ppt) and PFOA was detected at 31 ppt (compared to 8 ppt). Inferred groundwater flow direction is north towards Mann Creek or northwest towards the Kalamazoo River watershed.
