Cannon Township Fire Department, Station #2 (Rockford, Kent County)
In March 2026 EGLE was contacted by a resident that sampled their own drinking water well and lives near the Cannon Township Fire Department, Station # 2, located at 6878 Belding Road NE. The result was 9.6 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt). EGLE resampled the well and found similar results.
EGLE, DHHS and local health met and developed a sampling plan and in April 2026, EGLE sent letters to 21 nearby residents to seek permission to sample their private drinking water wells. EGLE received approval from 12 residents and sampling occurred in late May. Of 12 homes sampled, two were above criteria, four had detections below criteria and six were non-detect.
In April 2026, EGLE met with Cannon Township and learned the township had results from a groundwater monitoring well located in the northeast corner of the township office property. The well had 11 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt). The township installed another well south of the office building/fire department in the historic fire training area and it had 72 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt) and 19 ppt PFNA (compared to 6 ppt).
The regional groundwater flow is to the west/southwest.
