Romulus Distribution Center (Romulus, Wayne County)
This site, located at 36411 Ecorse Road, was a former unlined landfill and the future home of the Romulus Distribution Center. While discussing a dewatering permit application for the site, MPART became aware of a baseline environmental assessment (BEA) that had been completed and included data from two temporary groundwater monitoring wells. One well had one PFAS chemical below criteria; the other well exceeded criteria and had 270 ppt PFOA (compared to 8 ppt), 580 ppt PFOS (compared to 16 ppt), 540 ppt PFBS (compared to 420 ppt) and 2,300 ppt PFHxS (compared to 51 ppt).
EGLE is also involved in this site due to a $1M brownfield redevelopment grant. There is no known groundwater flow direction due to the nature of the groundwater onsite, consisting of shallow pockets of groundwater that don't connect to each other. Municipal drinking water is provided to all residents and businesses in the area. The site is located within the Rouge River Watershed. Post Drain is located to the south of the development, Mc Claughrey Drain to the northeast of the development and wetlands are located on and around the property.
