Michigan Master Assessing Officer (MMAO)

Two options are available for Individuals interested in obtaining MMAO certification.

  1. Completion of the STC Michigan Master Assessing Officer Program
  2. STC Acceptance and Waiver of Previous Projects/Education

STC MMAO Program:

The application window for the October 2018 MMAO Program is now open.  Fully completed applications must be received in our office no later than August 1, 2018.

Prior to applying to the MMAO Program, candidates must complete 3 pre-requisite classes and provide proof of the two years of assessment administration experience after obtaining MAAO certification.

Pre-requisite courses are offered through the STC or an outside organization.  Credit is also issued for a qualifying course.  The link below provides a list of course equivalents that are currently being accepted.  Please note this is not an all-inclusive list and students may submit a class for review and approval to issue credit at any time.

Any organization wishing to sponsor a class must complete the Michigan Master Assessing Officer (MMAO) Organization Program Packet in its entirety.

The State Tax Commission is pleased to announce they will sponsor in Fall of 2018 the three required MMAO Pre-Requisite courses.  Each course will be offered in a four week format at a cost of $250/course.  Each course will be limited to 35 students.  Individuals must hold a valid MAAO Certification to attend and be actively working toward application to the STC MMAO Program.

Advanced Income will be offered from September 8, 2018 until September 29, 2018.  Classroom sessions will be held on September 8, 2018 and September 29, 2018.  Registration Forms are due August 8, 2018.

Advanced Depreciation will be offered from October 6, 2018 until October 27, 2018.  Classroom session will be held on October 27, 2018.  Registration Forms are due September 6, 2018.

Advanced Market Analysis will be offered from November 10, 2018 until December 8, 2018.  Classroom session will be held on December 8, 2018.  Registration Forms are due October 10, 2018.

STC Acceptance and Waiver of Previous Education/Projects:

Individuals who currently hold the CAE designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) or the Ad Valorem/Mass Appraisal - General designation from the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and can demonstrate the designation was achieved by completing requirements directly with and through IAAO or ASA and that no other forms of waivers or reciprocity was provided through that organization in order to achieve the designation may apply for an Acceptance and Waiver of Previous Project/Education.  Individuals who meet all of these requirements must submit an application to the State Tax Commission and provide documentation proving the designation is current, is held in good standing and was achieved through the organization as required.
