MiABLE celebrates inclusion at the 2024 Autism Hero Walk

As a proud sponsor of the 2024 Autism Hero Walk taking place at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak on Saturday, Sept. 21, MiABLE will be on hand to spotlight autism awareness and increasing inclusion for all people with disabilities by expanding financial opportunities and accessibility.

The fundraiser, hosted by the Autism Alliance of Michigan, takes place Saturday, Sept. 21, from 7 a.m. to noon at the zoo. The event is expected to draw over 6,000 participants. It will feature families, advocates and supporters of autism awareness coming together to celebrate and support individuals with autism.

MiABLE, established in 2015, allows individuals with disabilities and their families to save for future expenses without jeopardizing eligibility for government assistance like Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income. As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting financial independence for individuals with disabilities, MiABLE will have an informational presence at the event, providing resources and guidance on how attendees and others can open and manage MiABLE accounts.

“Opening a MiABLE account empowers individuals with disabilities to improve their quality of life,” said R. Scott de Varona, MiABLE program director. “Our sponsorship of the Autism Hero Walk helps raise awareness about the financial tools available to the autism community, enabling families to secure their financial future without losing access to critical benefits.”

Upcoming Webinar to Educate Families on MiABLE’s Benefits

In addition to its participation in the Autism Hero Walk, MiABLE will host a free webinar on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at 6 p.m. The webinar will focus on raising awareness about financial tools available to individuals with disabilities. Attendees will learn how to open and use MiABLE accounts, explore qualified disability expenses and hear success stories from current account holders. Interested participants can register online. For more information about MiABLE, visit www.MiABLE.org.

At the Autism Hero Walk, attendees are encouraged to visit the MiABLE tent, where they can learn more about disability savings opportunities. MiABLE will also be offering an informational display at the event, along with a QR code for attendees to easily access further details about the program.

MiABLE and the Autism Alliance of Michigan share a common goal of promoting inclusion and opportunity for individuals with disabilities. Through partnerships like this, both organizations strive to create environments where people can find support and thrive.
