Michigan Communities Can Apply For Assistance to Secure Federal Infrastructure Funding for Crucial Infrastructure Projects

Technical Assistance Center opens window #3 in 2025 for Michigan communities

LANSING, Mich.— The Michigan Infrastructure Office (MIO) Technical Assistance Center (TAC) is opening its third application window in 2025 to help communities access millions of dollars through federal grants funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The TAC supports local entities in securing federal investments that will have lasting positive impacts on Michigan residents. These grants are aimed at enhancing infrastructure by building safer roads and bridges, improving transit connectivity, and creating resilient energy and water systems.

"The Technical Assistance Center is a vital resource for Michigan communities seeking access to federal infrastructure funding," said TAC Director Kris Brady. "We provide comprehensive support, from identifying the right grants, helping to write them and offering technical guidance throughout the application process. By enabling communities to secure these crucial funds, we are helping to build stronger, more resilient infrastructure that will continue to serve Michiganders.”

This application window will remain open from Monday, June 16 to Friday, June 27 at 11:59 p.m. The TAC is hosting a live webinar from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 to help communities better understand technical assistance, the grant opportunities available and the application process. The TAC will also hold office hours at 1:00 p.m. -2 p.m. on Monday, June 23 to meet directly with entities interested in applying for funding.

The TAC has supported over 55 communities and seven state agencies in accessing federal funding opportunities by offering technical assistance and matching grants to local governments, tribal entities, and other eligible organizations. In this application window, the TAC provides consulting services for identifying appropriate grants, grant writing, technical responses such as benefit-cost analysis, and project matching assistance.

“I would recommend services from the MIO Technical Assistance Center to a peer,” said Meg North, Grant Township supervisor in Keweenaw.  “The support, resources, and expertise provided by the TAC team were valuable in helping us navigate the complexities of federal grant applications.”

MIO TAC is offering technical assistance for grants we anticipate becoming available Summer 2025. Not all NOFOs are published at time of Window opening.  We are selecting grants that we anticipate NOFOs being released.  Potential applicants can review past NOFOs and TAC Fact Sheets but note that new NOFOs are expected to update criteria based on current federal priorities.  As they are released, TAC will link applicable NOFOs on its website and update Fact Sheets. Please also refer to grants.gov and other source material for the latest information on NOFOs.

Since the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Michigan has secured more than $13 billion in federal funding to enhance roads, bridges, public transit, water infrastructure, and broadband access. These investments are improving communities across the state by creating good-paying jobs, addressing long-standing inequities and building resilient infrastructure for generations to come. By leveraging these funds, Michigan is ensuring its residents have access to safer, more connected, and sustainable communities while strengthening the state’s economy and overall well-being.
