WHEREAS, teachers mentor, guide, and inspire students so they can reach their full potential, meet their personal goals, and grow into successful future leaders of our state and nation; and,
WHEREAS, teachers help children learn, grow, and excel so they are prepared to contribute to our society, economy, and communities in positive ways; and,
WHEREAS, along with parents, educators are mentors and role models to countless students across our state; and,
WHEREAS, many teachers go above and beyond for students by sponsoring clubs, coaching athletics, and creating a welcoming campus environment where all children can shine; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we take time to appreciate and recognize all teacher and public school employees in Michigan who shape the students of today into the leaders of tomorrow, inspire and welcome others to ascend into this honorable profession, and reaffirm our commitment to high-quality education that meets the needs of all students;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 8 – 12, 2023, as Teacher Appreciation Week in Michigan.
