October 18, 2025: World Menopause Day

WHEREAS, menopause refers to the natural or medically induced, permanent end of menstruation, typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55, and signifies the end of a woman's reproductive years; and,

WHEREAS, menopause and perimenopause impact every woman in Michigan who lives to reach this phase of life, with 1.3 million women entering menopause every year across the nation; and,

WHEREAS, menopause and perimenopause symptoms such as hot flashes, chills, sleep disturbances, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and brain fog can impact a woman’s personal and professional life, yet are often misunderstood or overlooked; and,

WHEREAS, World Menopause Day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness, promote education, and encourage open conversations about menopause and perimenopause, while also advocating for improved healthcare and workplace support in addition to community resources; and,

WHEREAS, recognizing and supporting individuals going through this life stage is essential to fostering a healthier, more inclusive society that values the experiences and contributions of women at every age;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 18, 2025, as World Menopause Day in Michigan.
