Renewal

Resident and Non-Resident individual and business entity producers do not receive an invoice for license renewal annually.  Surplus Lines individual and business entity producers are required to complete the annual renewal process as indicated on the Renewal Information web page.

Resident individual producer licenses are perpetual as long as the licensee is compliant with Continuing Education credit requirements as described on the Insurance Licensee Continuing Education FAQ web page.  Resident business entity (agency) licenses are not required to renew as long as the license remains active and in good standing.

Non-Resident individual and business entity (agency) producer licenses are perpetual as long as the home state license remains active and in good standing.

Insurance Company Appointments

Every year at the beginning of October, insurance companies authorized to conduct business in Michigan receive an email from DIFS Insurance Licensing staff that includes a list of the active individual and agency producers which are appointed by the insurance company.  The company must verify the accuracy of its list of appointed producers, and electronically cancel all unnecessary appointments prior to December 31st.

In January, each insurance company receives an invoice for all individual and agency producers holding an active appointment with the company as of January 1st. Invoice payment is due 30 days from the date printed on the invoice.  The invoice date and payment due date are clearly printed on the invoice.

Insurance companies may review a list of the producers appointed with the insurer using the Producers Appointed by an Insurance Company Locator on the DIFS website.
