FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 25, 2021
(LANSING, MICH) Governor Gretchen Whitmer has recognized May 2021 as Military Appreciation Month, and the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) and the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) are informing service members and veterans of available benefits and career opportunities within the insurance and financial services industries.
"Our nation owes its freedom to the brave men and women who answered our nation's call to serve," said DIFS Director Anita Fox. "Rewarding careers are available within DIFS or within the financial services and insurance industries we regulate and we are committed to helping our veterans find their next opportunity to serve."
"We are dedicated to serving Michigan's veterans and their families and making Michigan the place veterans choose to live, raise a family, work, and retire," said Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Director Zaneta Adams. "To help achieve this mission, we are building partnerships with employers like DIFS to promote working environments that recognize veterans' skills, best practices for veteran retention, and the importance of veterans in the workforce."
Military veteran recruitment, training, and retention are top organizational priorities for DIFS. DIFS is proud to be certified as a Bronze Level Veteran Friendly Employer by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, showcasing DIFS as a top career option for veterans. More information about working for DIFS, as well as current job postings, can be found on the DIFS Careers page.
Additionally, under the GI Bill, DIFS insurance examination fees can be reimbursed for VA-eligible veterans who seek to become licensed insurance agents. Please contact DIFS at 877-999-6442 or DIFS-Licensing@michigan.gov with any questions about examination fee reimbursement.
Veterans and service members should also be aware that many insurance companies offer discounts on insurance and financial products to those who have served our country. For more information, contact your insurance agent or insurance company and ask about potential military discounts they might offer.
