DIFS Celebrates Insurance Careers Month by Highlighting Stable, Impactful Jobs in Michigan

(LANSING, MICH) February is Insurance Careers Month and the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is raising awareness of the many good paying, in-demand jobs available to Michiganders in the insurance field.

"The insurance industry supports Michiganders in some of life's most significant moments. You cannot buy a car, purchase a home, or start a family or a business without considering what kind of insurance you might need to protect your financial well-being and peace of mind,” said DIFS Director Anita Fox. “Insurance Careers Month is a great time to explore how a career in the insurance industry can benefit you, your family, and your future."

More than 82,000 Michiganders work in the insurance industry, according to a study conducted by the Insurance Information Institute, with salaries totaling more than $8 billion a year.  Michigan’s insurance industry offers a variety of career opportunities. To fill new positions, companies in the industry need employees with a variety of educational backgrounds, skill sets, and specializations, including:

  • Computer programming
  • Cybersecurity
  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Management
  • Human Resources
  • Legal
  • Actuarial
