Michigan DMVA to Host Cake-Cutting Ceremony to Celebrate 250th Anniversary of U.S. Marine Corps at Michigan State Capitol on Nov. 10
November 03, 2025
LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), in partnership with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (MCHF) and the State of Michigan, will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps on Monday, Nov. 10, from 2-3 p.m. at Heritage Hall at the Michigan State Capitol. The event will include a ceremonial cake-cutting, featuring a custom-made cake created by Baker’s Nook of Saline, a local member of the American Bakers Association.
The event will include remarks from Marine veterans, Brig. Gen. Ravindra Wagh, assistant adjutant general and commander of the Michigan Army National Guard, and Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Director Brian L. Love. Music will be provided by the Holly High School band, led by Marine veteran Benjamin Baldwin. The oldest and youngest Marines will cut the cake upholding a proud Marine Corps tradition. This ceremony is a symbolic renewal of each Marine’s enduring commitment to the Corps, honored each year with reverence and pride. Marines interested in attending the ceremony at Heritage Hall must RSVP.
“The annual birthday cake-cutting ceremony is a special ceremony for every Marine, as it’s a reminder of why we made this commitment to our nation and our service,” said retired Marine Maj. Gen. James Lukeman, president and CEO of MCHF. “This year’s ceremonies take on an added significance as we celebrate 250 years since the Marine Corps’ founding on Nov. 10, 1775. It’s an opportunity for every state to commemorate this historic milestone and show their appreciation for all Marines who stand ready to protect our nation.”
The cake-cutting ceremonies are a part of MCHF’s year-long celebration of the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary. The American Bakers Association will provide cakes to every state for the cake-cutting ceremonies, emphasizing the baking industry’s commitment to supporting the nation’s military community. Every state is also being featured through MCHF’s Marines Across America program, which highlights Marines who have brought home their Marine Corps values to make a notable impact on their local communities. If you know a Marine whose story deserves to be shared, submit their information at the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation website. Following the event at the Capitol, Hope & Teal, a Marine veteran spouse-owned company, has invited Marines to continue the celebration in the Stockhouse at the Lansing Brewing Company located at 518 E. Shiawassee St., Lansing, from 3:30-10 p.m.
