Amy O’Leary

Amy O’Leary is the Executive Director of SEMCOG, a regional planning organization with over 180 local government members and is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation planning and decision-making in the seven-county Southeast Michigan region. SEMCOG is responsible for planning and intergovernmental problem solving on a variety of multi-community regional issues, including transportation, water quality, air quality, solid waste, land use, community and economic development, and data analysis. Amy has worked for SEMCOG for over 30 years and became the Executive Director in 2020.

Amy also serves as the President of the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition (MAC), a non-profit public/private partnership of business, labor, government, and education leaders focused on improving the prosperity in Metropolitan Detroit.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alma College and a Masters in Planning from Eastern Michigan University and attended Harvard University’s Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. She is a Certified Association Executive and holds a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University. She holds leadership positions at the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy, the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, and the Executive Directors Council of the National Association of Regional Councils.
