Joanna Johnson

Joanna Johnson has spent most of her career in the civil engineering and public infrastructure, developing a diverse skillset including — contract negotiation, HR, budgeting, government relations, team building, and public speaking. She recently retired as the Managing Director of the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County (RCKC), starting there in November 2007. Some of her other past roles include: Assistant Managing Director for the Calhoun County Road Commission, member and president of the County Road Association (CRA) of Michigan, member and Chair of the Michigan Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC), non-voting member of the Michigan Infrastructure Council (MIC), member of the Western Michigan University’s (WMU) Civil and Construction Engineering and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Industry Advisory Boards, member for her local township planning commission, and president of the Association of Southern Michigan County Road Agencies (ASMCRA).

Joanna is a proud graduate from WMU with a bachelor’s in business administration. Some of Joanna’s accolades include the 2020 Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan County Road Association (CRA), receiving her American Public Works Executive credential in 2016 and graduating from MIC’s Asset Management Champion program in 2021. After retiring from public service, Joanna launched Strade Consulting, LLC, helping local agencies and partners strengthen their governance, improve processes, and strengthen infrastructure systems.
