In Case No. U-22065 the Commission ordered Staff to convene a technical conference on the future implementation of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). This order was a result of the order made in Case No. U-21585 in which the Commission adopted the Administrative Law Judge’s recommendation to convene a technical conference to discuss the future implementation of AMI. In the U-21585 order, the Commission stated the technical conference should focus on: (1) the technical aspects of the company’s planned investments for AMI; (2) the company’s current and planned utilization of AMI, particularly for DER deployment and integration; (3) examining next-generation AMI functionality, and improving and bolstering the company’s AMI business case; (4) ensuring that future investments in AMI are producing and maximizing value for customers; and (5) ensuring that developments in AMI strategy are applied consistently across other relevant dockets including rate cases and distribution system planning cases.
Commission Staff will be hosting this technical conference on the morning of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The conference will consist of presentations from utilities and third parties on AMI and DER integration and utilization as well as a panel discussion. Following the conference, Commission Staff will file a report no later than August 31st, 2026, summarizing the contents of the conference and offering recommendations to guide the future implementation of advanced metering infrastructure.
