MPSC Outreach and Engagement
The Commission’s outreach and engagement strategies are rooted in three foundational principles:
- Building and maintaining trust
- Ensuring transparency
- Increasing Commission visibility and access
Community members are more likely to trust organizations with which they are familiar, and this earned trust requires both visibility and access to the organization, materials that are relevant and timely, and that community members understand the processes by which decisions are made. For this reason, the Commission seeks to participate in local outreach actives, including participation in local resource fairs or other similar events, and is seeking to actively build relationships with organizations that are trusted by their community members to help connect the Commission with those communities. Key to this work are the Commission’s Community Liaisons and the Commission’s Community Partner Network.
MPSC Community Liaisons
The MPSC’s Community Liaisons seek to connect the Commission with local communities. They work with Community Based Organizations and Community Members in their respective regions to bring the Commission closer to communities through participation in local outreach events and opportunities. Community Liaisons also work to build the Commission’s Community Partner Network.

The MPSC's Community Partner Network
The MPSC’s Community Partner Network (CPN) exists to build relationships between the MPSC and communities throughout Michigan. This will be achieved through meaningful collaboration between community organizations and MPSC Community Liaisons, jointly identifying opportunities for impactful engagement, and working together to build understanding of the Commission’s role and how it can help address the needs of the community.
The MPSC Community Partners help the Commission reach their communities to provide information about:
- The role of the MPSC and what it does to serve Michigan residents.
- Michigan’s energy assistance, consumer protections, and energy efficiency programs.
- Home energy tips and ways to save on utility costs.
- Safety issues regarding a customer's utility service.
In return, we offer Community Partners access to a variety of MPSC resources, including:
- Event assistance.
- Monthly Community Partner updates.
- Regular networking opportunities.
- Regular opportunities to hear from MPSC Commissioners and Staff.
- Dedicated resource support.
